Some of John's favourite subjects are market scenes for their vibrant colours and the play of light and shade. One of his 'claims to fame' is that he actually appears on the box lid of the Norwich version of Monopoly - at his easel painting the market. We are lucky that John is going to demonstrate a pastel painting of Norwich market for us.

Michelle says "Close-up organic forms create an abstracted expressive surface based on light, space, colour and texture. A sense of depth, blurred backgrounds and loose brushstrokes contrast with sharp detail and tighter, representational mark making. The longer I paint, the more I realise that my work is all about the composition as a whole".
